Urology Specialties - Female Urology
About Our Center for Female Urology
The Center for Female Urology, Voiding Dysfunction and Urodynamics at Columbia University Department of Urology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital specializes in the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the bladder, urethra, vagina, and pelvis found in women. Under the leadership of Kimberly L. Cooper and Matthew P. Rutman, the Center offers expertise in treating vaginal prolapse, urinary incontinence, neurogenic and overactive bladder, urinary tract infections, painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis, and female reconstructive urology. Using the latest diagnostic testing and technology available, Drs. Cooper and Rutman specialize in a wide variety of non-operative and minimally invasive procedures. Many patients can be managed successfully with behavioral and dietary changes as well as medical therapy. For those who do require surgery, we offer minimally invasive techniques that often result in quick recovery times and are done on an outpatient basis.
Columbia Urology at NYP was ranked 6th in the nation in 2007 by U.S. News and World Report.
Each year at the Center, Drs. Cooper and Rutman diagnose and treat more than 6,000 patients with male and female voiding dysfunction. They offer state-of-the-art testing as well as medical, behavioral, and surgical treatment options for a wide variety of urinary problems.
Treatment at Columbia Urology is individually tailored to each patient based on her specific complaints and severity of the disease process, and our goal is to improve the quality of life of all patients we see. Drs. Cooper and Rutman offer a wide range of treatment options from periodic follow-up to pharmacotherapy to office-based procedures to minimally invasive surgery.
