Terry W. Hensle, M.D.,F.A.C.S, F.A.A.P., graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics in 1964 and he received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1968. Dr. Hensle's general surgical training was carried out at the Harvard Surgical Service of Boston City Hospital and his urology training was at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was a surgical research fellow at the Harvard Medical School in the area of surgical nutrition from 1972 to 1977. His subspecialty training in pediatric urology took place at the Massachusetts General Hospital and at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

In 1978, Dr. Hensle was appointed to the faculty of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he is currently The Given Foundation Professor of Urology and Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology. Dr. Hensle served as the Director of Pediatric Urology for twenty five years from 1978-2003.

Dr. Hensle has served as president of the Society for Pediatric Urology, The New York Academy of Medicine Section on Urology and of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. He is a member of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons and The Society for Pediatric Urologic Surgery as well as an examiner for the American Board of Urology. In addition, he has been honored by the National Kidney Foundation with a Lifetime Achievement Award (1996). Dr. Hensle has been a visiting professor at more than 40 major universities nationally and internationally and published more than 200 scientific articles and chapters in the areas of both surgical nutrition and urology.

Dr. Hensle specializes in all aspects of pediatric urology including urologic reconstructive surgery for neurogenic bladders and genitourinary reconstructive surgery for intersex.
