Jillian L Capodice is currently the Director of Acupuncture and Integrative Service at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She has been at Columbia since 2003. She works under Aaron E Katz MD who holds the title as the Director of the Center for Holistic Urology, a Center which he established in 1998. The Center performs basic research and conducts clinical trials which investigate the role of natural therapies within urology and urologic oncology.
After graduating from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2003, she completed a 2-year fellowship at the Center for Holistic Urology and Molecular Urology Laboratory here at Columbia University Medical Center. Over this time she was awarded an early award for new investigators from the Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Cancer Institute, and was Co-Principal Investigator of the first clinical trial of acupuncture at the Center for Holistic Urology which studied the effect of acupuncture in men with chronic prostatitits/chronic pelvic pain syndrome. She has continued this research for various conditions in urology and oncologic supportive care including urinary frequency, chronic pain, a recent study on acupuncture for hot flashes in prostate cancer patients and novel basic science and clinical investigations in botanicals. She was also a co-investigator on a grant awarded by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to study the effect of acupuncture in aromatase inhibitor induced arthralgias in women with breast cancer.
To date she is active in the Consortium for Academic Health Centers in medicine and is the Co-chair of the Clinical Working Group that includes peers from over 40 esteemed medical centers. She has published over 20 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and has lectured throughout the United States.
